Minister Aceng Urges Dedication Among Health Workers

The Minister of Health, Jane Ruth Aceng, received an unexpected show of appreciation from staff across various departments of the Ministry of Health in recognition of her leadership in managing major public health challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.

The event, held in Luzira within Nakawa Division, brought together personnel from the National Health Laboratory and Diagnostic Services (NHLDS), alongside other ministry teams. It was organized as a moment of gratitude for the minister’s efforts in strengthening Uganda’s disease response systems.

Addressing attendees, Dr. Aceng expressed deep appreciation for the gesture, describing it as both humbling and encouraging.

“I am truly overwhelmed. God has been faithful through it all,” she said.

Dr. Aceng, who also serves as Woman Member of Parliament for Lira City, reflected on her political journey, highlighting the challenges she encountered and the role of faith in overcoming them.

“There were difficult moments during my journey, but I remained focused and trusted in God for victory,” she noted.

During her remarks, the minister also addressed health workers—particularly volunteers—acknowledging their contribution to the sector and assuring them that their commitment has not gone unnoticed.
“To all those who have been volunteering, your time will come. Opportunities will be created, and I will ensure that your efforts are rewarded. But even then, continue serving with dedication,” she emphasized.

The event also attracted religious leaders, including Herbert Twina , as well as a team from Butabika Hospital, who joined in prayers for the minister.

Members of the Mothers’ Union and the Nabisunsa Girls Old Students Association added a celebratory touch by presenting a birthday song in her honor.

Dr. Aceng commended the groups for their support and unity, noting that values instilled through education and faith continue to play a significant role in leadership and service.

Several speakers at the gathering offered prayers for her continued strength and guidance in office. They also called upon President Museveni to consider sustaining female representation in key leadership positions, emphasizing the importance of inclusive governance.

The event underscored growing recognition of frontline leadership within Uganda’s health sector, as stakeholders continue to highlight the importance of collaboration, resilience, and dedication in addressing public health challenges.
